Description

This portrait, which can be dated to about 1630, depicts a man approaching middle age and is said to portray Sir Roger Townshend. The present condition, prior to restoration, impedes any assessment of this picture, due to several vertical splits in the  wooden panel. Judging from what little can be made out of what appears to be original paint, no comparable painting from this period can be put forward.
