Description

The picture depicts a Dutch spritsail fishing vessel, laden with a cargo of barrels, probably containing herring, a staple of the Dutch fishing industry. It can be attributed with confidence to Sebastian Pether, whose initials, ‘S.P’., are inscribed on the white sail. For Pether’s biography see TN9.
