Description
Elizabeth Hussey (1591–1658) was the daughter of George Anton (born c.1550), member of parliament for Lincoln, and Jane Tailor, granddaughter of Thomas Tailor, the builder of Doddington Hall. She married Sir Edward Hussey in 1609. The present portrait, by an unknown artist, would appear to be the pendant to the portrait of Sir Edward Hussey (DN18). Since she appears to be in mourning dress, it may well have been painted after her husband’s death in 1648, and some time after his own portrait.
