Description

The Dutch artist, Hendrick Koekkoek, was born in Hilversum, the son of the painter Marinus Adrianus Koekkoek (1807–1868). He worked in Amsterdam and The Hague and in London, where he died. Hendrik is known for wooded landscapes, often featuring winding tracks, of which this is a typical example. It can be compared, for example, with A lady on a pathway by a stream, sold Bonham’s, Chester, 4 November 2009 (435). Landscapes by Koekkoek in British public collections are at Kirklees Museums and Galleries and Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens.
