In terms of its style and subject matter it is comparable to a number of Redmore’s works, such as Ships off the Coast in Hull Maritime Museum (KINCM:2007.1040), which features a similar fishing boat in the foreground. Redmore also painted a number of other marine pictures featuring shipping off the Yorkshire coast, at Whitby and Scarborough. He also painted marine subjects which combined fishing boats and merchant ships in rough weather near cliffs, such as A Coastal Scene with a Cliff, a Fishing Boat and a Merchantman in a Storm (Nottingham County Hall CH0021). An attribution to Redmore’s contemporary, George Knight (fl. 1872–1892), is also possible although, on balance, Redmore seems a more likely candidate. by Martin Postle Related catalogue items from Trewithen Trewithen Self-Portrait James Northcote, c.1776–7 Trewithen Unknown Child circle of Robert Byng, c.1690–1700 Trewithen The Rev.
